# A democracy needs credible opposing media

Restored from Instagram stories · 28 October 2022

the devesh wire fiasco, is proof why the left media should kick out far left from them if they want to be taken seriously.

devesh is known in reddit for his far left views, furiously running numerous servers in AWS fo twitter trend bots. i don't even know if wire did a background check before hiring him or if they actually wanted people like devesh.

i suspected the teckfog story and it turns out, it was also fabricated.

devesh buried wire in a week what the far right wanted to do for years.

wire will never be taken seriously henceforth.

imagine if sharechat sues wire for the techfog story. it's over for wire.

we need credible 'left media' to keep the right govt. in check when they rule and vice versa.

that's how democracy works.

for now, they're none.

but it's true why media can't operate independently. the overheads are too much and the revenue in India especially after digital age is close to nothing.

indian consumers do not buy. we don't have enough buying power (especially true when the top 10% earns 25k INR gross per month)

trust me. running a media is hard. without ad revenue, you can't. when ad revenue hits, you'd have to be biased.

so, yes - you will never hear unbiased news here.

so, when a company owned news organization surfaces, ask yourself - why would anyone run a news organization that makes humongous losses ?

the expenses has to be justified

1. it's either to push an agenda,

2. support and lobby a political group to the people, so as to get favor when they come to power,

3. make their ad sponsors happy.

nobody does charity here.

if wire has to run with approx 50k USD every month, they'd have to be biased towards those who fund it right ? if else, how would they run ? same goes for every media.

even if you take the left run media, the journos are left oriented, not the owners. always capitalism. always what's best for them and their business. reason why adani's took a few of them ;-)

when the age of newspapers collapsed, the power of news organization's collapsed.

now the biggest organizations run on legacy (collapsing), previously earned income from legacy, by their ads/sponsors, lobbies for someone.

and rarely some are VC backed. eg:- axios

gives the rise to independent media which is again funded by VCs.

inc42, entrackr, the morning context, etc., are all vc funded.
