# Why I criticise the religion I was born into

Restored from Instagram stories · 12 April 2026

“idolatry of self”?

please. one of the titles of the pope is the “vicar of Christ” which means the “the earthly representative of Christ”

please drop that from the list of official titles and i am good.

before i even criticize other religions, i see criticizing the one where i was born in - as a moral responsibility.

i am alright with all that you’re doing but the one thing which i’ve consistently hated is virtue signaling.

the vatican has always remained a source of power and in the olden days have done numerous wars. it was feared because it had power. power because it can raise whole kingdoms under the holy roman empire to come under one banner for war. later the spanish and the portuguese did countless atrocities under its name.

i still remember what they did in india, especially the portuguese in goa under inquisition.

all is fair in love and war? okay. every historical expansion are just/unjust. but what is this moral posturing and virtue signalling without apologizing for past deeds?

the vatican has done several apologies for their crimes.

let’s now see the apologies that have been done by the vatican.

the catholic church has repeatedly acknowledged and apologized for:

- violence against other christians

- religious intolerance

- harm to non-christians (especially jews and indigenous peoples)

no, it has not: [this is the important part]

- issued a single blanket apology covering everything

- fully accepted institutional blame in a modern legal/political sense

- framed history as purely “church-led oppression” (it emphasizes shared responsibility with states and historical context) - which we all know is ducking from its responsibility

were their past doctrines wrong? yes. have they ever denounced it? nope. have never clearly denounced it as wrong only word play and newer doctrines introduced.

you get the point.

i am not attacking the vatican/catholic church. i am attacking the virtue signaling.

never virtue signal.
vatican can never virtue signal.
they’ve zero rights to do so unless they denounce what they’ve done.
they’ve zero rights to be the moral arbiter.

would i be okay if the pope’s title is the “vicar of Christ” until he had said not to “enough with the idolatry of self”? absolutely. 100s of people have kept titles of their own and i don’t even care. i wouldn’t even have cared about it.
