# The limits of the onsite dream

and if i didn't tell you something, if you think you can get into an IT sweatshop company like TCS, Infy and get a H1-B visa - with an onsite opportunity,

i have one more hammer coming your way.

-- so typically there's a cap to the number of H1-B visas that are available every year. it's around 65-70k a year i think.

usually whenever the applications cross the cap, it's given based on a lottery.

why do we have more applications? because it's a double intent visa. you can apply for a green card with that so it's highly preferred by many. (read competitive)

so most Indians join these IT companies in india purely to get an onsite opportunity to move to US, get a green card and settle there.

probably most of their workplace politics are surrounding the same.

these companies often abuse the system in US and they grab upto 75-80% of the H1-B visas issued every year.

so what happened right now ?

they managed to piss off the silicon valley elite. some of the big startups there. they are just pissed that they aren't able to hire insane talent from different parts of the world because of IT sweatshops doing their thing.

they're currently actively lobbying in Washington to bring new amendments regarding the same. i am close with some of them who's pushing some of these regulations heavily.

so, if you're in an IT sweatshop consultancy looking for that H1-B, your days are just numbered. make hay while the sun shines. expect some regulation very soon.
