What if we treated a college education like a service we bought?

so help me understand something.

you decide that you are going to buy a service from a company/business organization.

you go to them. they tell you all the options and variants they have. some services which you can buy for 3, 4 or 5 years.

you decide that you like the service which is for 4 years. they ask you to pay an upfront fee and tell you the cost for the services. you pay and their job as a service provider is to give you something.

but when you work with them, they continuosly give you surprises. they don't give you the service which you want. they do what they want and you are at their mercy. they bill you for hidden charges every year and they say that they can't let you cancel the contract in the middle otherwise you'd have to pay for the entire service duration.

finally after finishing the 4 year service, you don't get what benefits you would have got by spending so much $ of money. There's zero return for the spending.

wouldn't you get angry ? you also find out, that the same service company/business organization and similar others have done the same for millions of others for over 20 years.

won't you get all angry ? won't you ask for money back and engage in open protest ?

now - replace the service company/business organization with colleges and universities.

do you get angry ?
