The productivity tool is not the work

Restored from Instagram posts ·

There is nothing in life that's called peak productivity/ improve productivity or any tool that's perfect in all senses in actually increasing the so-called productivity in personal productivity tools.

productivity : the time in which you finish your work in high efficiency possible.

in reality, it's just a notion of having happy hormones released after you complete a job that gives you satisfaction and there's no true measure for that.

[a qualification: the hormone explanation is asserted without evidence here. the narrower point is to judge a tool by whether it improves the work, rather than by the excitement of adopting it.]

its just 'kumbaya'

People just like the idea of improving a largely imaginary productivity workflow and jump from one tool to the next every few months.

it's known as productivity porn. you try to find short term happiness and keep using whichever makes you happy.

what did it cost you in life?

an emptiness.

people used onenote books, then came evernote, google keep for minimalism, notion, to-do lists, roam - I tried experimenting with calendar to block times.

everytime, it's just a happy hormone release which tricks you that what you are trying is just increasing your productivity (similar to porn) and it will get bored after some time. then you go ahead and try the new one and you get the same feeling with that one - it's perfectly termed as productivity porn.

and you are always left with this question of self doubt.

am I productive enough?

what should I do to increase productivity?

it leaves you with an emptiness and a mind that doubts you - the very being that houses the mind.

sounds evil now? go and sleep.
